You cannot move on from your past if you have not acknowledged the pain that is in you as a result of the challenging experiences that you lived through.
Integrating this pain means validating it - by accepting your version of the truth and your perspective as equally important as anyone else's.
This may feel like you are 'playing the victim', being 'self-indulgent' or starting a 'pity party' (all of which are judgements you have internalised from others) but this stage is an essential means to an end, which is feeling love and compassion for YOURSELF and valuing YOURSELF in the same way that you have empathy for others.
Which is what healing is all about.
